Masters

This image is part of a series for my masters exhibition (2002). At the time South African media was awash with violent imagery. Very simply worded, people developed a thick skinned attitude to this phenomenon.

This series looks at loss, at the extraordinary that for a while (and to some extent still is) viewed as banal and at desensitization toward this kind of violent media imagery. For this series I literally tracked the “life” of such images in news paper from from print to recycled paper though many manifestations and uses.  The pain of the imaged face here has resonance for me now as it represents this time in our history.
